As the lead industrial designer on an innovative retail checkout system project for Amazon, I significantly enhanced the original concept by improving its usability and aesthetics. Through preparation of concept sketches and CAD files, I facilitated seamless collaboration with the Amazon team, ensuring integration of all electrical and computing components. I expertly programmed and operated a CNC router to fabricate the majority of parts, ensuring precision and efficiency in the project's production. The pilot systems debuted to positive acclaim at a major trade show, attracting significant interest from retailers keen on adopting this cutting-edge technology.
Gearboxes at Calton Cases
Leading the research and design of a new gearbox line for Calton Cases, a globally acclaimed manufacturer of musical instrument cases, involved competitive market analysis, customer surveys, developing a project timeline, conducting critical design reviews, and contributing innovative design solutions, guiding the project to successful completion.
The new line of gearboxes embodies Calton's iconic style while reaching new markets. I led the development of the marketing strategy and ensured the new model was seamlessly integrated into the production process.
Footwear Design for the Homeless at PENSOLE
At Pensole Footwear Design Academy in Portland, Oregon, a project was undertaken with a focus on developing footwear that addresses the unique challenges faced by the homeless community. Through direct engagement and comprehensive research, the initiative sought to navigate the complexities of the Pacific Northwest's rainy environment and the issue of access to properly fitting shoes, aiming to meld innovative design with impactful social contribution.
A Convertible Shoe
Convertible footwear that offers maximum protection, breathability and flexible sizing. A flexible knit upper features synthetic leather at the toe end. The sole is divided into four sections, both upper and sole allow the shoe to flex and accommodate multiple sizes. An insulated shroud with ripstop nylon is stowed away at the ankle and can be unfolded to provide maximum protection in harsh weather. Velcro straps allow for a flexible fit, while securing the foot and the unfolded shroud.
